Harvesting begins when 5-8 fruits fall loosely.   Ripe fruits are red or orange, and orange palm oil seeps out when pressed with a finger.   Fruit bunches are cut manually with a knife, chisel, or sickle.   When the plant grows too tall, the collection of fruit is aided by hooks.  For palm oil, 3 years old can be harvested, but pollination takes 5-6 months
